Our French House: Holiday Lets in South West France

BY ROAD:

Car hire: We have found AUTOEUROPE the cheapest and friendliest. Also the queues are shorter at the airports if you are flying Ryanair because most passengers are encouraged to hire Hertz cars.

From Carcassonne airport:

Turn right out of airport. Follow road to Montréal, Fanjeaux and Mirepoix. If you are not in a rush, park near the cathedral in Mirepoix and have a coffee in the central arcaded square. As you leave the town, follow signs for LAVELANET. On the edge of town there is a big SUPER U supermarket where you can stock up. After 4Km you will go through La BASTIDE de BOUSSIGNAC. About 5K further on, as you reach the signs for village of AIGUES VIVES, watch for the LEFT turn to LERAN (rather hidden behind a building.) Go to centre of Léran; by the boulangerie, turn RIGHT. As the road then bends left you need to go STRAIGHT ON up a narrow uphill lane. This is RUE du PRAXINABEL. Our house (No 16, Beaux Arbres) is just beyond the top of the hill on the RIGHT with double gates into the garden.

From Toulouse airport:

Take the A61 motorway going round the Toulouse ring road (follow signs for Montpellier / Barcelona / Carcassonne). Do NOT follow signs to Bordeaux! After the ring road, continue towards Carcassonne for 10Km, then take the motorway spur A66 (signed Andorre, Foix and Pamiers) to the south off the A61 to PAMIERS. Leave the A66 at Pamiers, following signs to MIREPOIX. At Mirepoix take the LAVELANET signs and follow instructions as from Carcassonne.

BY CAR FROM UK

If you take the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Le Havre you can reach our house in 12 hours (including stops). The best route is to head for Chartres and Orléans before following the N20 virtually all the way to Léran. This road has been upgraded, with some stunning views.
If you cross to Calais or Boulogne, you may need to break the journey overnight. We tend to stay in Chateauroux or Orléans.

In the summer flights are popular and may get booked up. The earlier you book, the cheaper the flight. RYANAIR also flies to Carcassone from Cork, Dublin, East Midlands, Glasgow (Prestwick) and Liverpool. RYANAIR flies from London Stansted to Perpignan, and from London Luton to Béziers, both within 2 hrs reach. London Gatwick: EASYJET direct Gatwick - Toulouse. BRITISH AIRWAYS flies London Heathrow (T5) - Toulouse. flyBE flies to Toulouse, Perpignan or Béziers from a wide range of UK airports, including Belfast, Birmingham, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Jersey, Newcastle, Southampton and Isle of Man. JET 2 flies to Toulouse from Belfast, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle Bristol: EASYJET daily flights Bristol - Toulouse. Manchester: BMIBABY operates three flights a week to Toulouse and six flights a week to Perpignan. East Midlands: BMIBABY flies to Toulouse. RYANAIR flies to Carcassonne.
